What types of therapy do we offer?

All our therapists integrate multiple modalities like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, somatic therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and internal family systems (IFS) based on your needs.

What issues do you specialize in treating?

We have experience working with folks facing anxiety, depression, caregiver/compassion fatigue, healthcare providers, stressors around life transitions, addiction, couples, siblings, and trauma. We are LBGTQIA and BIPOC allied therapists as well.

How long are therapy sessions, and how often do they occur?

Typically we encourage weekly sessions that are 45-50 minutes long.  Couples sessions may run from 50-60 minutes.  We ask that you consider the ideal days and times that work best for you to tailor this into your schedule in order to get the most out of your sessions.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept several insurances. Please see our current list of insurances we are credentialed with.  If we are not credentialed with your insurance we can provide you a superbill for out of network coverage.

What are your fees for therapy sessions?

Our fees vary depending on the type of service and duration. We’ll be happy to discuss our fee structure during our initial conversation.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

We understand emergencies arise and will work with you to accommodate your schedule as best as possible when they do.  When you can please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.  We will offer one late canceled session for free.  We will have to charge a full session rate after that for any sessions canceled  less than 24 hours from the scheduled appointment as well as for any no show appointments as we have to compensate for the time lost.  We ask that you keep communication as open as possible and collaborate with your therapist if you are finding the day and time of your sessions no longer works for you or if you need to take a break from therapy in general.  This is all valid to express and be transparent about with us.

How do I schedule an initial appointment?

You can schedule an initial consult appointment by calling or texting 646-543-2442.  You can also email ask@compassionatetalktherapy.com.  Once you are matched with your therapist you will receive their contact information for future scheduling.  All recurring appointments are set up through our EHR system, Therapy Notes, where you can opt into receiving email appointment reminders.

Do you offer virtual therapy (teletherapy) sessions?

All our sessions are virtual at this time.  We provide therapy for residents of NY, NJ, and AZ.  We provide coaching to all states.

What should I expect during the first therapy session?

During the initial session we will typically discuss your goals for therapy, gather background information and establish an initial plan for treatment.  Feel free to come to sessions with questions or something to write in if that helps with retaining thoughts and reflections from your sessions.

Is therapy confidential?

We utilized HIPAA compliant measures of communication and record keeping to do our due diligence to protect your privacy.  All sessions are confidential within legal and ethical boundaries. We ask that you do not record sessions in order to assure your privacy.

How long does therapy typically last?

The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. We'll work together to determine the most appropriate length of treatment for you.

What age groups do you work with?

We work with ages 8 and up.  This of course depends on whether virtual therapy is an appropriate fit and level of care for you or your loved one.  We can discuss this in the initial consultation.

What qualifications and experience do you have?

All our therapists are clinically licensed in their respective mental health practices.  Currently our staff are all licensed clinical social workers or licensed master social workers.  Please read everyone’s bios for more specific details of their past experiences.

Do you offer sliding scale fees or financial assistance?

Yes, sliding scale fees are offered if needed.  We will discuss what is feasible for you based on your income and provide you a Good Faith Estimate once a rate is established.
